Are you a passionate driver? Does it thrill you when you drive fast? If your answer is a yes to either question, then this Uniden R3 review is for you.

Not many people look up reviews regarding car radars, but traffic rules only hinder the few who do definitely have a fiery glint in their eyes. Good thing you can still get that healthy balance between the thrill of speed and not getting a violation ticket with the product that we are about to review.

More than any other feature, effectiveness is probably the most important one for choosing the best car radar. In line with this, it should also have an efficient prompt. You would not want the alerts to come five minutes after the incident.

Unfortunately, car radars nowadays have many features that may or may not complicate their main purpose. Hence, in this Uniden R3 review, we will take a look at the Uniden R3 Extreme Long Range Radar Detector. We will look at its features, and at the same time, the advantages and disadvantages of using it.

Just like its previous models, the company still kept its pager-like design. It has four buttons at the top for the power, menu, volume up, and volume down. It has a colored display screen in the middle, and underneath the screen are two buttons for mute and mark.

  • OLED screen
  • Auto-mute function
  • It has two windshield mounts
  • Digitalized signal processor
  • Filters for K false and KA false
  • Equipped with camera alerts for red lights

  • It comes with a 12 volts power cable that has a USB data port

  • Easy to set up and use
  • Customizable alert sounds
  • High level of radar sensitivity
  • Works quietly 90% of the time
  • Alerts are always ahead of time

  • Perfect size to mount to the windshield
  • Can be quickly removed from the mount
  • Convenient and free GPS database updates

  • No autolearning system; you have to be the one to map out your mutes and false alarms

Summary

The Uniden R3 Extreme Long Range Radar is a product that has an extremely high sensitivity. At the same time, it has a simple user interface, making it easy for you to master the controls. Additionally, its compact size makes it ideal for quick viewing and access to be put on the windshield.

Amongst the best features of this radar is its ability to detect radars from afar and has alert prompts that are almost always early, which can be 40 meters ahead, so you are given ample time to slow down. Likewise, it can work even if there are curves, mountains, or rivers from the source point. Additionally, it can function in an off-axis direction.

The false alerts you get are infrequent, and what is good about this Uniden R3 is that the more you use it, the more the alerts get accurate by memorizing the database.

On another note, it has a slightly poor design since you really cannot customize the way you position it. More than that, it does not automatically record your activities, so it is up to you to map out your indicators. Also, you have to buy other accessories since those that will come with your purchase are not that good.

Comparison with the Escort Passport 9500IX Radar Detector

The Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector surely has a sleeker and more professional design than the Uniden R3 Extreme Long Range Radar. At the same time, it also has an auto-learn function, so all you have to do is to press on indicator points once. It also has a safety camera database, so even if it is your first time driving on that road, it already has information regarding speed cameras.

With all these epic features, you might think that it is the better choice between the two. However, even though the Uniden R3 Extreme Long Range Radar does not have these convenient features, it is still the better radar. Why? Because it excels on the main purpose of getting a car radar, which is sensitivity.

When you use the one from Uniden R3, you can be immediately alerted from several meters away. Every time that a speed radar gets turned on, it will alert you. The same cannot be said with the one from the Escort Passport S55.

Yes, it has many features that help you map out stress points, but you cannot solely rely on it to give you accurate alerts. Better have a simple car radar that helps you not get a ticket than a swanky-looking one that gives false alerts, right?

Verdict

With this Uniden R3 review, we concluded that Uniden R3 is worth every penny because of its Extreme Long Range Radar detection. Definitely, it is definitely one of the best car radars out there. It might not be the perfect car radar, but it really does well in radar detection long before that dangerous point. With this, you can truly rely on it for you to have a worry-free drive.

But do take note that its accessories can be faulty. So, you also have to invest in other accessories so that you can properly mount this device and connect it to your car. Also, consistently pressing the indicator buttons can be annoying, but it is a small price to pay for the most sensitive radar in the market.
